Our Amenities/Services
Although Rum Runners Roost has been decorated to reflect the unique style of the 1930’s era, the B & B has been extensively renovated to meet current building code requirements and is fully equipped with all of the modern day conveniences of a four star establishment. Each room has its own en-suite/private washroom, (complete with hairdryers, etc.), queen/twin size beds, high definition TV, DVD player, and beautiful original art work. Guests at the Roost can be guaranteed a great night’s sleep as all of the mattresses are Restwell mattresses, made right here in Newfoundland.
Returning guests will also notice the addition of a new and enlarged laundry room, which will also serve as the base for the sitting area/balcony for The Bessemer. Guests are invited to use the laundry room at no extra charge and explore the common areas both inside and outside of the property. The gardens are filled with wild roses, a signature of Newfoundland, and you will find it a nice space to enjoy a cup of tea.
As a four star B & B, we offer a complete, nutritional, three course breakfast menu to suit the palate of the discerning traveler. The first course is always a bowl of fresh fruit and local berries to which you may add yogurt and/or chia or flax seeds. This may be accompanied with, or followed by, a juice beverage of your choice (orange, apple or a combination of fruit/vegetables). Each guest then chooses their main entre from the following suggested selections or a combination of their choice:
- bacon and eggs, (low salt bacon, eggs any style)
- Pancakes with/without bacon
- French toast with/without bacon
- Oatmeal with toast
- Cereal and milk with toast.
We also offer our guests several locally made, nutritionally high quality breads: light Rye, whole grain pumpernickel, and whole wheat. Coffee and tea, or a selection of herbal teas (including locally grown “nettle” tea), finishes off the meal.
Each guest is free to use the kitchen at their leisure during their stay, whether for an afternoon snack or a cup of tea before going to bed.
In addition to the basic accommodations, we like to do little “extras” for our guests:
- breakfast is always served on warmed plates,
- guests have a choice of good quality margarine or butter,
- a selection of home made jam (made from local berries minus the added sugars), and
- the option of drinking tap water or purified water, which we supply.
If guests are celebrating a special occasion (anniversary, birthday, etc.), and we know of this in advance, our guests always find a card and a nice bottle of wine from the local winery in their room – a little gift from us.
We are also happy to make reservations for various activities around town for our guests upon request.
